In this video, I’ll share my experience with the usability testing of ePortfolios, a project Instructional Designed to enhance students’ reading comprehension and critical thinking through technology. By collaborating with my colleagues, I tested and refined the Implementation to ensure its effectiveness in the classroom.
During the testing phase, we evaluated feasibility, accessibility, and functionality in an actual classroom setting. Thanks to teacher feedback, I optimized the experience for educators and students.
Collaboration with Teachers and Usability Testing
I had the opportunity to present my project to second—and third-grade teachers at Santa Fe Elementary, who implemented it in their classrooms. Their feedback, gathered formally and through informal conversations, provided valuable insight into areas for improvement.
This collaboration was made possible by supportive school administrators who value teacher initiatives. They allowed us to test and refine strategies that align with student needs.
Challenges and Implementation Improvements
One of the main challenges was coordinating teachers’ preparation time, as workload and unexpected school events caused delays. External factors, weather conditions, and schedule changes also affected the timeline.
To address this in future implementations, I plan to create online training modules that provide teacher flexibility.
Impact of the Digital Platform
Google Drive played a crucial role in organizing and facilitating implementation. Teachers could easily access and share documents, while students benefited from managing their learning and collaborating with peers.
Lessons Learned and Implemented Changes
Flexibility in implementation and clarity in presentation were key lessons learned. Based on teacher feedback, I made several improvements:
- Content Optimization: Reduced redundancy and organized information more effectively.
- More Accessible Structure: Created sections with direct links for quick access.
- More precise Explanations: Used concise descriptions and practical examples.
Current Project Status and Expectations
Students have responded enthusiastically to ePortfolios, showing adaptability to the technology. We continue to refine the process and look forward to assessing the impact on their reading comprehension and analytical skills.
Infrastructure and Technological Support
With access to computers and iPads and a reliable tech support team, we have minimized technological barriers, allowing us to focus on optimizing learning.
Teacher Evaluation and Conclusion
Teacher feedback has been instrumental in making the implementation more transparent and effective. Their contributions have strengthened the project, ensuring its success in the classroom.
This experience has been a significant learning opportunity. While challenges arose, every adjustment has improved the implementation. I’m excited to complete all modules and evaluate the long-term impact of ePortfolios on student learning.
