The COVA (Choice, Ownership, Voice, and Authenticity) learning approach could significantly influence my learning in the ADL program and daily activities. This method promotes my autonomy, allowing me to make decisions about my learning and increasing my engagement and motivation. In addition, it facilitates the development of my voice and style, which helps create my ePortfolios. Working on authentic and relevant tasks makes my learning meaningful and applicable to real-world situations. Taking ownership of my learning makes me more responsible and proactive in my education.
The COVA model solves problems of traditional teaching models, such as the need for personalization and relevance. By focusing on choice, ownership, voice, and authenticity, COVA connects content to real-world situations, increases motivation, and fosters 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and communication. However, taking ownership of learning can be challenging as it requires self-discipline and self-management, and developing an authentic voice can be difficult at first.
To develop my voice in my ePortfolio, I could use reflective blogs and journals to document my learning, videos, and multimedia to express my ideas, examples of successful ePortfolios for inspiration, and online forums to receive feedback. Implementing this approach can transform my teaching and student learning as a second-grade teacher. Encouraging self-reflection, setting clear and attainable goals, making informed decisions about resources, and seeking constructive feedback are essential to developing a sense of agency in students.
As for the role of COVA in student mindset, I have a student mindset, although there is always room for improvement. Practicing self-reflection, seeking continuous learning opportunities, establishing a study routine, and maintaining a positive attitude are critical steps to improving this mindset.
By implementing these aspects of the COVA approach in my proposed innovation in creating and using ePortfolios for students, I will be able to improve student reading comprehension and foster beneficial skills and attitudes in the long run. This approach enriches my learning as a student and allows me to be a more effective and motivating teacher.
