Contributing to My Learning and My Learning Community
Reflecting on my journey in the Assessing Digital Learning course, I recognize that the development and refinement of my Innovation Proposal have been fundamental in driving my personal and professional growth. This course has provided a valuable framework for evaluating the impact of digital tools in education. It has sharpened my understanding of how technology can transform learning environments to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century.
The Action Research framework was a critical starting point for my exploration. By establishing a conceptual and methodological framework, I was able to describe how ePortfolios foster critical thinking, creativity, and autonomy in students. This process allowed me to delve deeper into a mixed methods approach, balancing Creswell and Plano Clark’s (2018) ideas about integrating qualitative and quantitative data. Crafting this paper helped me solidify my research approach and provided the foundation for understanding the tangible and intangible outcomes of ePortfolios in my classroom.
The Literature Review expanded this work by connecting theoretical frameworks, such as the COVA approach, with practical strategies for effectively implementing ePortfolios. By exploring Harapnuik et al.’s (2018) research and addressing challenges such as technology access (Bagot, 2021) and teacher readiness (Blum, 2020), I gained a deeper appreciation for the multifaceted nature of integrating digital tools into education. This process not only strengthened my proposal, but also informed my understanding of the systemic support needed for such initiatives to be successful.
The Research Plan prompted me to think practically about implementing my innovation. Through this exercise, I developed a phased approach to introducing ePortfolios into the classroom, identifying data collection methods such as surveys, interviews, and observations to assess their effectiveness. Reflecting on Mertler’s (2019) insights, I understood how action research allows educators to refine their practices while continually holding fast to evidence-based outcomes.
My participation in class discussions and collaborative projects has also been a highlight of this course. Interacting with my peers through discussions and providing constructive feedback has broadened my perspective and enriched my learning. I especially appreciated the opportunity to collaborate on shared ideas, such as strategies to overcome barriers to technology implementation and create authentic learning environments.
This course has reinforced the importance of reflection and intentionality in evaluating digital learning tools. Writing and presenting my proposal emphasized the role of ePortfolios as more than just a digital tool—they represent a transformative, student-centered approach to learning. As Eynon and Gambino (2017) highlight, tools such as ePortfolios promote not only academic growth, but also self-reflection and lifelong learning, preparing students to navigate a rapidly changing world.
Looking back, I am proud of my progress. My learning journey has been marked by critical thinking, collaboration, and a commitment to creating meaningful change in education. While there is always room for growth, particularly when it comes to balancing my time and refining my implementation strategies, I feel confident in my ability to contribute to my learning community and inspire positive transformation in my classroom.
Final Grade: 93/100
I rate myself a 93 because I actively participated in all aspects of this course and thoughtfully contributed to discussions. My work reflects a dedication to improving my teaching and empowering my students to become autonomous and reflective learners.
